We rolled into Fort Pickens Campground, Pensacola Beach, Florida on Thursday afternoon on the last day of February. But the last time we blogged it was on February 20 and we were in Big Bass Campground east of Ocala. So here's what happened in-between.
We received an email while we were at Big Bass that there was going to be a "memorial" get-together at Lakeland LIght and Life Park the upcoming Sunday to honor a dear friend of ours who had passed away. We were only 90 miles away, so we packed up the trailer and drove back to Lakeland on Sunday afternoon. Upon walking into Hood Hall, I was asked to lead in prayer. It was a nice time of visiting and enjoying our friends.
A Monday-afternoon doctor's appointment went by without any problems and after some discussion, d saying goodbye to Sheryl's sister, we left Lakeland Wednesday afternoon. An overnight in Live Oak, Florida--
at the Walmart put us in close range to Fort Pickens and the Pensacola area. There was some diesel noise during the night but after a night's rest, we found the local McDonald's and some sausage biscuits. Yum Yum.
Here is our campsite at Fort Pickens:
It's a nice space with lots of room with no one behind us or on the door side of us. For $10 per night (we're seniors :) ), we get water and electric at the site. We have reservations here through Sunday night. It's getting down into the 30's for the next three nights and our electric heater is really getting a work-out.
When we walked into the reservations office, it seemed that almost all the sites were reserved and occupied. But the guy behind the desk said: "Let me see what I can find." It wasn't long and we had a nice site. We like it here.
All kinds of "rigs" are parked here - there are over 200 sites. Here is the most unique one so far:
Today was a "check-out Papa John's Pizza" day. $11 for any large pizza so we hit up the one in downtown Pensacola on the way to the Naval Aviation Museum. The pizza was good and the Museum was great. Here's just a few pics:
There are more pics, BUT for some reason, blogspot doesn't seem to want to upload any more pics. We're here through Sunday, in hopes that the temps get a little warmer along the way. Then... well, we'll see when the time comes.
